Success comes one step at a time. Most of our residents have been told in one form or another that they cannot be successful. Our program is based on 4-5 levels. Each level is a success to the other. When our residents complete a level they are reassured that they “can” instead of that they “can’t”.

They begin to set short and long term goals for personal, employment, family and looking toward a bright future with hope and motivation. After they graduate, our goal is to continue to follow up with them through a mentorship and alumni program.

Meet those who found renewel from the rescue mission and discovered their own changes from the Inside-Out

  TAFNEY

Hope Haven is exactly that; a Haven for Hope. This is especially true for 26 year old Tafney. She came to Hope Haven from the Texas Panhandle last year.

Tafney was married at 20, had two beautiful children and had gotten a divorce before she met someone new. After a couple of months of fun and new love, Tafney moved in with her new boyfriend. He became controlling, possessive and ultimately violent. She never knew what would set him off.

“The biggest mistake of my life was getting in a relationship that forced me to give up my kids. I don’t like how that sounds, but that is reality,” said Tafney.

He started cinching Tafney’s life. She wasn’t even allowed to talk to her friends or family. She had her bags packed and tried to leave several times, but each time her abusive boyfriend held the safety of her children over her head.  His subtle suggestions that they would be harmed kept Tafney in this abusive relationship for over a year.

“The morning I left, God taught me a lesson. He provides, and has ever since,” Tafney said.

She went to a shelter last Easter in her hometown, but after three days it was no longer safe. Her aunt and uncle volunteered at Hope Haven and suggested the move. Tafney has been at Hope Haven for ten months and just finished her Bible studies.

Tafney attends college and is majoring in Early Childhood Development. Her dreams are to start a Christian Day Care Center. She feels like the program has given her control, self-discipline and purpose. She will graduate from the Discipleship/Recovery Program during the next graduation.
